The Caldwell Council on Adolescent Health, a non-profit organization, was founded in 1983 with the purpose of reducing teenage pregnancy. The Council promotes positive life choices by using best practice models in the classroom. By teaching our curriculum, teenagers are empowered to make healthier life choices, mind and body. |

| YOUR LIFE is like school, you will be given lessons everyday... How well you do on learning the lessons IS UP TO YOU. As school comes to an end and summer is upon us, we must all remember the lessons we have learned over the past year. For students here in Caldwell County, subjects such as English, Math, Science and History have been a constant in the classroom. However, CCAH took one week out of every for 7th, 8th, and 9th graders school year and made our presence known loud and clear. But did they listen? For five days each student in these grade levels heard us speak on subjects such as; the consequences of teenage pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, reproductive systems and how to take care of your body - physically and emotionally. But did they listen?? One of the hardest parts of our job is watching the students walk out the door on the final day not knowing if we have truly made a difference. Luckily, on the final day of class this year, CCAH received a letter from a 9th grade student that let us know, "We are listening." "Thank you soooo much for what you have taught our class. I appreciate you showing and telling me what HIV/AIDS, warts or any other disease will do to me. I have come close to having sex before but I didn't because you have told me while I was in 7th grade that is cost about $20,000 to take care a kid for just the first year. Thank you soooo much because I could be a dad now if I didn't listen 2 u in class. Now I don't want to have sex until marriage because of the STD photos you shown me. LOL! I hope you have success wherever you go because I know you will have an impact on their lives just like u had on mine!!!" We can't change the world, but we can make a dent. And if CCAH is able to make a 'dent' in the lives of young people in Caldwell County, well, we've done our job. |
